I was born in Belgrade, Serbia. I majored in Japanese language and literature at Belgrade University and, whilst there, I started teaching English part-time. I enjoyed this so much that I decided to establish a career in teaching. I completed the MA programme in TESOL and Applied Linguistics at Leicester University, UK and after this I earned a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Queensland, Australia. I have taught English in Serbia, Thailand and Japan. Japan has been my home since 1996. My main research interest is vocabulary acquisition. I am particularly interested in the acquisition of figurative language (idioms) by second language learners and possible applications of cognitive linguistics to second language learning and teaching. In my free time, I enjoy reading, traveling, studying Spanish and dancing salsa.
Cuba
Sun, white sand beaches, the ubiquitous salsa beat, and its fun-loving, open-hearted people make Cuba an unforgettable experience
Caffeine, caffeine, caffeine….Watch the news…. Check e-mail….and caffeine, caffeine, caffeine….. |
Start the day with my first year Communicative English class….Still not fully feeling the effect of that caffeine, but the students are genki and ready for action…学生からパワーをもらう。文字通り。。。 Then my second year 英語演習 class. Things are a bit more serious here. For many students this is the first time to learn a new subject through English. Some struggle, all seem a bit anxious, but little by little, the routine is established and things do get better as the course progresses. A lot of work, but I love this course… |
Lunch break! And MORE caffeine…..Check the mail and choke down another “konbini bento”. They all seem to taste the same. I should really start cooking…. |
A happy time with my jinka students….It’s always fun to hear their original conversation skits…. |
My batteries are running low and another caffeine “infusion” is desperately needed. Then e-mails and paperwork, class prep and photocopying for the next day…. |
On a good day….(^^) |
一日のご褒美。。。Spanish studying time….The more I study it, the more I love it… Going to bed wishing the day were longer… |
