Foreign Student Department Outline and Studies
For Education, Bunkyo:
Unique Approach to Japanese Language Education
In April 1993, the Foreign Student Department was established as a division of the Japanese language training program of the Graduate School of Language and Culture. Students, mainly from Asian countries, study Japanese language and general courses to advance to various schools within Japan, including faculties and graduate schools within Bunkyo University. Students can study on a one-year course starting in the spring semester or an 18-month course starting in the autumn semester. In the Graduate School of Language and Culture, exchange students from partner schools in New Zealand, Germany, and other countries take supplementary Japanese courses, and undergraduate students aiming to become Japanese language teachers offer courses. Starting in 2003, a course has been offered where students in the Faculty of Language and Literature study different cultures firsthand along with students in the Foreign Student Department. It is a valuable space for international understanding.
別科長挨拶
To those who have studied Japanese in order to study at higher education institutions in Japan, how about building up your Japanese language skill at Bunkyo University's Foreign Student Department (Bekka) and aiming to enter undergraduate or graduate schools of Bunkyo University? Bunkyo University was established in 1927 and is a middle-ranking university in Japan which currently has the enrollment of over 8,000 students. In 2021, in addition to the Koshigaya and Shonan campuses, Bunkyo University has a new Adachi campus in Tokyo, and continues to develop as a comprehensive university with seven faculties and five graduate schools.
Our Japanese language course was established in 1987 becaming the Bekka in 1993 and has since grown continually. Bekka is located on the Koshigaya campus where students enrolling in the Faculty of Language and Literature, Faculty of Human Sciences and Faculty of Education are studying. One of the attractive features of the Bekka is the environment where students can put into practice what they have learned in class because they can interact with Japanese students. Furthermore, not only college courses but other programs to enjoy university campus life are also provided.
After completing the courses in the Bekka, some students have entered Bunkyo University and others have gone on to national universities or other famous private universities. Please follow in the footsteps of those graduates and make your dreams come true. We, the faculty and staff of Bunkyo, will do our best to support you in achieving that dream.
